Richard L. and Suzanne M. By Scholarship Fund

The Richard L. and Suzanne M. By Scholarship Fund was established through the generosity of Richard and Suzanne By to support students pursuing a business education at Michigan State University. As lifelong Spartan supporters, the Bys created this scholarship to help make a Broad College education accessible to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity, empowering them to build successful careers and contribute meaningfully to society.

Richard By earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Business in 1980 and went on to a successful career in software engineering and technology leadership. Suzanne By returned to higher education later in life, earning her bachelor’s degree with highest honors after many years in the workforce. Together, their experiences reflect a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education and lifelong learning.

This scholarship is intended to encourage and support students beginning their academic journey in the Eli Broad College of Business. Preference is given to students entering the College through the Direct Admit Program, recognizing students who have demonstrated strong academic potential and an early commitment to studying business.

Recipients are selected annually during the spring semester, with awards taking effect the following fall. The number and amount of awards are determined each year based on available endowment funds and are typically applied through the tuition payment process.
